To go with our new website release, here’s a rare treat – from 2014, a very classy Gibson Custom Shop Flying V in black with multilayer binding. Introduced in 1958 as part of Ted McCarty’s push to adapt futuristic 1950’s auto design influences, the Flying V, Explorer, Firebird, and the legendary Moderne broke new ground.
This Gibson Custom Shop Flying V was built during 2014 at the Nashville Custom Shop. It’s largely built with mahogany, and features a 12-inch radius Richlite fingerboard with mother of pearl block position markers, and gloss black finish with multi-layer binding as found on Les Paul Custom models. The metal parts are of course gold-plated, including an original-style V string plate, tune-a-matic bridge, Grover Roto-Matic tuners, and a pair of Custom Buckers for pickups.
This instrument is in very good condition, and plays just as well. There is little to no fretwear and the finish is quite clean. The original hardshell case is included, and the Custom Shop paperwork is in the case.
