This very special instrument has just arrived from the Gibson Nashville Custom Shop – the Gibson Dave Grohl DG-335 in Pelham Blue, signed by Dave Grohl and numbered 95 of 200.
The Gibson Dave Grohl DG-335 is based on Dave Grohl’s Gibson Trini Lopez Standard, which has been used on all the Foo Fighters albums. The Gibson Trini Lopez Standard model was built between 1964 and 1971, and was in turn based on the ES-335. (Vintage note: The Gibson Trini Lopez Custom was based on the Gibson Barney Kessel, a completely different, fully hollow archtop guitar). The primary visual adjustments to the base models were the six-a-side headstock, the diamond shaped soundholes, and split diamond position markers.
The Gibson Dave Grohl DG-335 differs from the Trini Lopez mostly in terms of hardware. The trapeze tailpiece of the Trini Lopez model has been replaced with a stop tailpiece, and the pickups are BurstBuckers. The tuners are Grover Mini Rotomatics. The scale length is 24.75 inches and the nut width is 1 11/16 inches.
This very limited production instrument shipped to us with the strikingly attractive Pelham Blue lacquer finish, and white binding. A Certificate of Authenticity, signed by Dave Grohl, is included in the case.
